Chinese New Year 2009

An important tradition on Chinese New Year's Eve is for families to gather together and spend the evening preparing "jiaozi" ( a kind of boiled dumplings).

This Year we celebrated Chinese New Year really traditional. Together with Grandma Hilde, who is visiting us here in Beijing for 5 weeks, Franzi had a lot of fun preparing more than 60 "Jiaozi". Can you believe how much work this is for Non Chinese people, who do it the first time!!
But Franzi and Grandma did a really good job!

They had a lot of fun working, chatting and giggling together in the kitchen. Than we all together enjoyed a wonderful dinner with all his "Jiaozi and a lot of other traditional Chinese Vegetable.

Honestly, we celebrated it not 100 % traditional. Because we forgot one thing! According to Chinese Culture it is common to hide a coin in one of the dumplings. Whoever gets the dumpling with the coin will supposedly have good luck in the coming year.

After all the work preparing and cooking dumplings we watched at 12 midnight the amazing firework, loud and light and the whole family along with other friend and neighbors enjoyed watching the colorful firework!

Happy "Niu" Year 2009!!! (Niu=Ox) !!!
